Woman Sewing - cross stitching - 30 x 40 cm frame (3.5cm) - 2023.

Painted on a cross stitched image.

Creating a painting about something can be about nothing and vice versa through the use of abstraction. By distorting or simplifying the subject matter, the painting can transcend its original representation and evoke different emotions or interpretations.

This transformation from something to nothing, or vice versa, occurs when the painting becomes almost unrecognizable. Through the manipulation of form, color, and texture, the artist can lead the viewer to focus on the expressive qualities of the artwork rather than its literal content. That's what I'm thinking about whilst doing this series.

A painting about something can become about nothing, and a painting about nothing can become about something, blurring the lines between representation and abstraction.
